Two Seater Mobility Scooters for Adults

A two seater mobility scooter carries a driver and one passenger on a single machine, seated side by side on a wide bench. We sell side by side models from Afiscooter, Cheetah and RMB. They are rated for 450 to 600 lbs of riders and cargo combined, with top speeds from 9.3 to 15 mph.

They suit couples and caregivers who go out together and would rather own one scooter than two. They are outdoor machines. At 31 to 37 inches wide and up to 364 lbs, none of them folds, none fits in a car, and the Afiscooter and RMB side by side models are wider than a standard 32 inch door opening. Plan for a garage or shed and for freight delivery.

Below the products you will find a spec table of every two seater we sell and a buying guide that answers how much weight they carry, how far they go with two riders, where you can ride them and what Medicare pays for.

Two Seater Mobility Scooter Buying Guide

How to choose the best 2 person mobility scooter for you. Every two seater we sell seats both riders side by side. The Afiscooter S3 and S4 Dual put two people on a 33 inch bench at up to 9.3 mph, and the Cheetah Ninja ADA is the narrow choice at 31 inches wide.

Both Afiscooters also come with a hard top canopy (S3 $7,989, S4 $8,159) or fully enclosed with rain sides (S3 $8,449, S4 $8,599), with the same specs. The Afiscooter 2 in 1 golf models ship with a single seat and take the 33 inch dual seat as an upgrade. Afiscooter measures turning radius as the full circle, so halve it for a 90 degree corner.

Which two seater mobility scooter should you buy?

  • For seniors who want the gentlest ride. The Afiscooter S4 Dual. Its top speed is 9.3 mph with a half speed setting for crowds, it brakes on its own when you let go of the throttle, four wheels keep it steady, and it carries a 2 year in home warranty.
  • For tight turns and store aisles. The Afiscooter S3 Dual turns in a 56 inch circle against 90 inches for the S4, with the same seat, motor and batteries.
  • For heavier couples. The Afiscooter S3 Dual or S4 Dual with the 600 lb suspension upgrade, the strongest bench we sell.
  • For sun and rain. The canopy or fully enclosed Afiscooter S3 and S4. Browse them together in our fully enclosed two seater collection.
  • For the golf course. The Cheetah Ninja ADA has turf tires, seat belts on both seats, a 14 mph top speed and a swappable lithium battery.
  • For short neighborhood errands. The RMB e-Quad XL has a jumbo basket and an 8 or 15 mph switch, but its 15 mile range limits it to short trips.

How much weight can a two seater mobility scooter carry?

The two seaters we sell are rated for 450 to 600 lbs. That rating covers both riders plus everything in the basket and the storage box, not each seat.

Add up the real numbers before you choose. Two riders at 220 and 180 lbs with 40 lbs of shopping come to 440 lbs. That is inside the S3 Dual’s 450 lb rating with almost nothing to spare, so the S4 Dual at 500 lbs or either Afiscooter with the 600 lb suspension upgrade is the better fit. Leave headroom, because range and hill climbing both drop as the load rises.

Check seat width as well as the weight rating. The Afiscooter bench is 33 inches across, and two large adults may find it tight. Riders who need more room for one person should compare our heavy duty mobility scooters.

Side by side seating, width and wheel count

Side by side models seat both riders on one bench behind a centered tiller, and the throttle side becomes the driver’s side. You can talk easily and both riders see the road ahead. The cost is width. The Afiscooter and RMB models are 36 to 37 inches wide, wider than the 32 inch clear opening the ADA Standards set for accessible doors, so they live in a garage and are ridden outdoors and in large stores. The Cheetah Ninja ADA is the narrow exception at 31 inches. Browse them in our side by side two seater collection.

Three wheels or four? Three wheels turn tighter and four wheels are steadier, especially across slopes. Compare the 3 wheel two seaters with the 4 wheel two seaters.

How fast and how far does a two seater go?

Side by side models top out at 9.3 mph for the Afiscooter S3 and S4 Dual (11 mph with an upgrade), 14 mph for the Cheetah Ninja and 15 mph for the RMB e-Quad XL. Afiscooters add a half speed setting for crowds and confined spaces.

Published ranges run from 15 miles for the RMB and 25 miles for the Cheetah Ninja up to 36 to 38 miles for the Afiscooters with their larger 105Ah batteries, or 28 miles with the standard batteries. Those numbers assume good conditions. A second rider, hills, cold weather and stop and go riding all shorten the trip, so plan your regular route well inside the published figure.

Who a two seater suits, and who it does not

A two seater is a good fit for

  • couples where one or both partners have limited mobility and want to go out together
  • caregivers who would rather ride with the person they care for than walk beside them
  • riders who want the second seat for a pet or shopping
  • larger riders who like the width of a bench even when riding alone

Look elsewhere if

  • you need a scooter inside your home, because two seaters are too wide and too long
  • you travel by car or plane, because none of them folds or comes apart. Our folding mobility scooters do.
  • you have no garage, carport or shed with an outlet
  • the driver has vertigo, poor eyesight, severe tremors or trouble judging speed. A loaded two seater carries more momentum and takes longer to stop.

Think about the passenger too. They need to get on and off with little help, sit upright and hold on over bumps. A two seater cannot carry the passenger’s wheelchair.

How safe is a two seater for the driver and the passenger?

Only one person drives. Afiscooter and Cheetah can fit the throttle lever on the left or the right if you ask before ordering. Afiscooter and RMB models brake on their own when you let go of the throttle, and Afiscooters add an emergency hand brake. The Cheetah Ninja has a seat belt on both seats.

Afiscooter rates the S3 and S4 for 8 degree slopes at full speed and 11 degrees at reduced speed, so take hills slowly with two aboard. Canopies handle light rain only, and strong wind can push a canopy like a sail and tip the scooter. None of these scooters is meant for snow or ice.

We sell equipment, we do not prescribe it. If either rider has a condition that affects balance, vision or reaction time, ask their doctor or therapist whether driving or riding a scooter is safe for them.

Storage, charging, delivery and transport

Plan for a garage or shed with a standard outlet. Two seaters do not fold

Store a two seater in a garage, carport or shed with a standard outlet, out of the cold, since cold weather shortens battery life. Afiscooter and RMB use sealed lead acid batteries that last about two years and cost about $300 to $400 to replace. The Cheetah Ninja uses lithium batteries.

Standard delivery is free and curbside by freight truck. Afiscooters ship from Daytona Beach, Florida. In stock models can ship the same business day and take about 4 to 5 business days in transit. Choose white glove delivery and a local mobility shop assembles and charges the scooter, brings it into your home and shows you the controls.

To take it somewhere, use a pickup with a ramp or a trailer. Afiscooter, RMB and Cheetah fit most pickup beds. A hitch platform needs a tongue weight rating of at least 500 lbs. See our scooter lifts and carriers.

Where can you ride a two seater mobility scooter?

Stores, malls and public buildings must admit wheelchairs and scooters used by people with disabilities, and they may limit other powered devices only for real safety reasons, according to the Department of Justice ADA guidance. A 37 inch scooter still has to fit, so it suits big stores better than small shops.

Rules for roads and sidewalks vary by state and city. We do not sell any two seater as a street legal vehicle, so check your local rules before riding on roads.

Do not plan on buses or trains. Federal rules only require transit lifts to be 30 inches wide, 48 inches long and rated for 600 lbs (49 CFR 38.23), and every two seater we sell is wider or longer than that. Golf courses set their own rules, so ask the course first.

How much does a two seater cost, and will Medicare pay?

The two seaters you can order online run from $4,995 for the Cheetah Ninja ADA to $8,599 for the fully enclosed Afiscooter S4 Dual. Afiscooter, Cheetah and RMB orders can be paid over time with Klarna or a lease to own plan, subject to approval, and we match prices within the manufacturer’s advertised minimum.

Medicare Part B pays for a scooter only when it is medically necessary, after an in person exam and a written order, and only through a Medicare enrolled supplier. Medicare judges that need by what you must do inside your home, such as dressing and bathing (CMS coverage rules). A two seater is built for outdoor riding with a passenger, so plan to pay for it yourself. Heavy Duty Mobility is not a Medicare supplier (see our disclaimer), and we will give you an itemized invoice if you want to claim from a private insurer.

Warranty and service

Afiscooter two seaters carry a 2 year in home warranty. A technician comes to you and covers parts and labor on everything except wear items and batteries, which their maker covers for 1 year. The Cheetah Ninja has a 1 year warranty and the RMB e-Quad XL 6 months on parts. Read our returns and warranty policy before you order.

Pros and cons of a two seater mobility scooter

  • Pro. You ride together instead of one person walking alongside.
  • Pro. One machine, one charger and one set of batteries to look after.
  • Pro. The spare seat carries a pet or shopping when you ride alone.
  • Con. Too wide and heavy for indoor use, cars or public transit.
  • Con. Shorter range and slower climbs with two aboard.
  • Con. Neither rider can go out alone while the other has the scooter.

Two seater or two single scooters?

Choose a two seater when you almost always ride together and have garage space. Choose two single scooters when you each want to go out on your own, need to ride indoors, or travel by car. A single seat scooter can fold, fit through doors and go in a trunk, and no two seater can. If the real need is a stronger frame for one rider, a bariatric mobility scooter is the better buy.
